Coverage Beyond Medicare

Your dental, vision and hearing insurance options are separate from your medical coverage. Each can be purchased for an additional cost.

Dental Insurance Coverage

For a specific monthly rate, you are entitled to certain dental benefits, usually including regular checkups, cleanings, x-rays and certain services required to promote general dental health.

Some plans will provide broader coverage than others and some will require more of a financial contribution on your part. Plans may also provide coverage for certain types of oral surgery, dental implants or orthodontia.

Vision Insurance Coverage

Enrollment in vision insurance helps offset the costs of routine checkups. It also helps pay for vision correction wear that may be prescribed by your physician.

Typically, a vision plan will provide you with free eye care services and eyewear within fixed dollar amounts in exchange for an annual premium and a relatively small co-pay (or a fixed dollar amount) each time you access a service.

In some cases, a vision plan could also include a "deductible" - the fixed dollar amount you pay your eye care provider out-of-pocket before the insurance benefits are in effect.

Hearing Insurance Coverage

Having hearing insurance entitles you to benefits after a specific time period, usually including hearing exams and hearing aids.

Based on your plan, your hearing coverage can help offset the costs of hearing-related health expenses up to a certain amount. Some plans will offer wider coverage than others, and some will require more of a financial contribution on your part.
